As the season changes and we get ready for the holidays, we wanted to share some wellbeing tips with you. In the wintertime, with cold, dry weather our body and skin needs extra nourishment and care. Also, the bustle of shopping and family dinners can add to the stress. Try one or more of these wellbeing tips to practice self care, and relax and enjoy during the holidays!
1. Use warm oils instead of lotions to nourish your body
Most oils are more easily absorbed by the skin and lock the moisture better. Plus they don’t have chemicals that can cause harm. Skin is our largest organ, and anything we put on our skin gets absorbed in our bloodstream. Try sesame oil for the body and jojoba oil for the face. And always, always read the ingredients list of anything you put on your body.
2. Use a humidifier in Winter
In winter, our skin can get dry, chafed and irritated, and heating can aggravate certain health problems. Humidifiers can soothe our lungs and help with an array of problems caused from the dry air of heating like dry, itchy skin.
3. Use aromas, candles and essential oils to create a soothing space
Fragrant candles and oil lamps can help create a soothing space. It also promotes a sense of wellbeing, calmness and relaxation. Candles don’t have to be limited to romantic dinners. It can be part of your space at home where you relax or unwind in that big comfy chair for reading or meditation.
4. Drink warm water and herbal teas
The ancient wisdom of Ayurveda recommends drinking warm water especially first thing in the morning since it boosts metabolism, fuels digestive power and flushes out toxins. Different herbal teas are available for various health benefits. Try our favorite Fennel tea if you like its flavor (available as tea bags on Amazon).
